Absolute junk
I only gave this one star because no stars is not an option. Actually, this coffee maker is so bad, I would give it a negative rating if it were possible.
My Mr. Coffee brand coffee maker died after many years of service, and when I went to buy a coffee maker, I saw Mr. Coffee units for $18 and this unit for $10. I went for the cheap Rival coffee maker to save money. Big mistake. If you buy this RIval coffee maker, you will get ten dollars worth of coffee maker. Today, because my Rival unit is broken, I will be spending the extra money to get another Mr. Coffee coffee maker.
Here is what's wrong with this cheaply made piece of junk:
1. The coffee is not hot enough. Even if I leave the coffee on the burner plate for five minutes after brewing (as another reviewer suggested) it is still FAR below the proper serving temperature. What, are they worried I might spill it in my lap and sue them?? LOL
2. The engineers that designed this...
Sometimes Being Cheap Backfires
Wanting nothing more than a decent cup of coffee and an on/off switch, I eagerly purchased this $9 model at the local WalMart. That was a big mistake--don't let it be yours. It never produces hot coffee--tepid is more accurate. Other inexpensive coffee makers have easy-to-remove filter baskets (swinging arms or removable tops). Whoever designed this one should be fired--it's VERY hard to remove and snaps into place--nothing easy about it. Those are two very good reasons this appliance's next stop is a thrift store donation.
I haven't given up on cheap coffee makers. The Hamilton Beach 12-cup coffee maker has gotten good Amazon reviews and is under $20. That will be my next purchase--too bad $9 was wasted here.
not happy
how the heck does one clean/remove the coffee filter (without breaking it)?? I run CLR through the system on a regular basis but the basket still remains coffee-stained. The good thing about it was it was inexpensive at Walmart.
