One Touch Oscillating Heater/Fan, 9 1/8w x 9-5/8d x 13 1/2h (HLSHFH5606U)

Holmes heater
This has been a nice space heater to use. It has manual low, manual high, and thermostat temp auto settings,. You can either use oscillating or turn it off with switch. On high, this fan is a bit noisy, but that is my only complaint. I own two different Holmes heaters, and I like both.

Caution light on? Means it's garbage.
Once the caution light comes on, it's garbage. No way to fix it. Called Lasko customer service, they are not helpful.
Once it trips, it's garbage. Do not buy Lasko products.

Fiskars Consumer Prod 78616984 Axe/Knife Sharpener - Quantity 6 Wood Splitting & Cutting Accessories

A Reasonable Substitute for a Whetstone
If one really wants to put a razor sharp edge on an axe or knife, a set of diamond whetstones is the best way to do it. This painstaking manual process requires time and proper technique. Beware: a razor sharp edge is exactly that and not to be trifled with. On the other hand, if "pretty darn sharp" is good enough...and it should be for most utility purposes...a dedicated sharpening tool like the Fiskars will get the job done quickly and with minimum risk to one's fingers. There are a number of similar products on the market. This one comes from a reputable manufacturer at a good price point.

knives and axes?
eh? You seriously think I'm going to use the same thing to sharpen the Henckels 4 star knives I use to prepare family meals AND the axes I use to chop wood?

Seriously. This sharpener will reset just about any blunted knife or axe to a finely honed edge.

It does just a good a job on a fine filleting knife as it does on my favorte chopping axe - I just have to remember to clean it before I switch uses.

Now if only they made a lawnmower that could julienne vegetables....

Good, but some flaws
This is a handy tool that really simplifies sharpening. However, it has a few flaws.

Pros:

-Very Easy

-Hand Guard

-Lifetime Guarentee

Cons:

-Sharpens at 30 degree angle. Great for an axe, but for a knife, most people prefer a 20 or even a 10.

-Leaves black dust on the edge of cutlery

-Ok heres the big one: When sharpening, you press the axe into the sharpener and pull through the wheel. However, as you pull your axe out, it slices through the plastic in front of the wheel, there for somewhat dulling the axe. And sooner or later, you get deep cuts in the plastic, which really limits the sharpener's usefulness. Major design flaw.

Overall, the sharpener is great for axes, but for knives I tend to go back to the whetstone. And then there's the design flaw...

Dust Care Lil' Quickie Hand Broom Vac 17-4405-31

Don't waste your money
Purchased Lil' Quickie 14.4V model #DCST01 metallic red in December 2010.

Pros: Had good suction when charged.
Stands up on it's own.

Cons: Charge didn't last very long. Motor speed slowed noticeably after just 3 or 4 minutes.
On/off switch unhandy when used as stick vac... must stoop down to turn on/off.
"Swivel" feature of the brush head is useless because when swiveled the head doesn't move... just the handle rotates so the head
does not change direction.
I used it primarily for quick pickups an average of 3-5 times per week for 3-5 minutes each time... about half the time as a handheld and half as a stick vac. After 18 months there became times when the charging light would not light without unplugging and replugging it. Eventually no matter what I did the light would only flash as it was being plugged in; i.e., it would not charge. I tried a different (comparable) charger with the same result. I tried the Lil' Quickie...

Just Better
In a market of cheap and disposable vacuums this one is a pleasant surprise. I was tired of wasting my money on rechargeable vacuums when I was shown the Lil Quickie. It's just better!

Hoover UH70035B WindTunnel Cyclonic Upright Vacuum

Frustrated
I just purchased this vacuum yesterday (November 2, 2009) I used it last night and this afternoon. Already the automatic rewind feature is unusable. The unit is indeed heavy and awkward to use. I agree with the other reviewers that it has great suction and pick-up ability, but the fact that it is not very user friendly is why I am going to have to return it to Costco tomorrow. I also made quite a mess trying to empty the canister. The extra hose just makes the unit more awkward.

Great buy
I got mine @ Costco last week too. There were quite a few to pick from but for the lower priced vaccuums, this appeared to be the better one. I played with all the buttons to see how user friendly it was. It works really good so far. My husband uses it the most and says that it makes a funny sound when doing the bare floor, but turning off the roller-brush would stop that... All in all, it appears to be a very good product for the price, (around $140 @ Costco).

Works Like A Charm
We just purchased from Costco yesterday ($139 plus tax). Overall this vacuum is great! It is a little hard to clean out the filters but what vacuum isn't. There are a TON of attachments with an extended hose which can add an extra 10 feet. The suction is amazing and picked up everything. I would recommend for normal household duties.

Rival CFF5-CHP Chocolate Fountain

Rival Chocolate Fountain
Great product. Great for the holidays. I used candy melting chocolate instead of chocolate chips. I set up a big bowl of ice beside the fountain with a plate covered with wax paper in the middle of it. The kids dipped strawberries, pretzels, animal crackers, ritz bits and marshmallows and put them on the plate to harden. They loved doing this and after the chocolate hardened they used the plate to serve everyone.

The only problem was the cleanup of the fountain. I had to do this job and it was really messy.

Lots of fun for a party
I was a bit skeptical of how well this would work, but it was a huge hit at a party. The chocolate flow didn't look at full as in the photo, but nobody cared -- it tasted great, even with the vegetable oil that you have to add (2 cups of oil to 10 cups of chocolate chips). You do have to pre-melt the chips on the stovetop before you pour it into the fountain, but the fountain kept the chocolate melted and flowing for more than 4 hours. Nobody minded the taste of the vegetable oil, nor did anybody notice or ask. A popular topic of discussion during the party was "can this be cleaned?" but the cleanup was much easier than we expected. Sure you get chocolate on your hands when you disassemble it (yum!) but the parts hand washed easily in the sink (and they're dishwasher safe). Will we use this fountain every day? Of course not, it's for large parties and holidays. But, for $50, it compares well to renting a larger fountain that you'd only use once. I can recommend this. The...

For what it's worth!!!
For what it's worth, it's a great product. As far as being disappointed by putting "oil in your chocolate", it's not the machine, IT'S THE CHOCOLATE, I'm in the process of buying and researching Choc. Fntns. you need to buy high end "baking" choc, with a higher cocoa content the darker the better, The chocolate makes the machine, not the other way around, If you buy one for $2000, and use grocery store choc. chips, you need to add oil to make it flow, buy Guittard's. Sephra, or Belgium. Bottom line, do your homework.

Craftmade F545CFL-AG 5 Light Cast Arm Scroll Fitter Fan Light

Let There Be Light...
Craftmade's Five Light Decorative Scroll Ceiling Fan Light Fitter, F545-CFL, is one of the few multiple light universal fitters available for installation on your ceiling fan. Further, it does not require candelabra bulbs and, if you so desire, will accept incandescent bulbs. Five 13-watt CFL bulbs provide ample light for most rooms; our light is installed on the family room fan. It does an excellent job of providing light for the 18' X 24' space so that no other lights are necessary. One caveat - if the bulbs are "pointed" at a seating area, they will be too bright for the seat's occupants. If possible, turn the light fixture so the bulbs will not be directly aimed at someone.

This light fixture is easy to install on almost any Craftmade fan. It is equipped with "quick connects" which just require you to match correct wire colors. If you are installing this fixture on a fan which doesn't have the quick connects, you just need to cut them off, strip the wires, and twist...

Mr. Coffee TM1 2 quart Ice Tea Maker

Compare newer models carefully!
I had the old one with the orange top. That one has a top basket to hold the tea bags which incorporates a side lever to plug the bottom drain hole, and an overflow channel so just the last couple of cups steep the tea until you pull the lever to release them. The new one with the blue basket has done away with that lever (I'm guessing to cut costs) and just put a little bit smaller hole at the bottom. They also tell you to use a coffee filter in the basket in addition to the teabags themselves, which after all are little paper filters. This is probably to slow down the run-out of the tea to help it steep it a little bit longer. My favorite combination of bags is one bag or Celestial Seasons Red Zinger, one Lipton Mango, and two Red Rose decaf's. In the old one I would let this combination of tea steep for maybe 10 minutes, and it came out perfectly. Using the same bags with the new one makes *really* tasteless, watery tea.

I just found a new model that makes 3 quarts...

Worst Mr coffee Ice tea pot ever!
I was born and Raised in North Carolina so i know Ice tea especially sweet Ice Tea! I do not drink coffee but I drink 4 gallons of sweet tea on a slow week, and I make it all in one day on the weekend so I have to do it as efficiently as possible! This pot works great to brew the tea easily but god help you if you try to pour it into a glass from the included pitcher! It runs all down the front of pitcher onto the floor, your dog, your feet, etc! Personally I have the older 3qt model with the round pitcher and it works great, but at my urging that newer must be better my mom and dad bought this newly designed model (They were making tea in a pot like grandma did it) Well between my mom, my dad, myself and my wife none of us can pour tea out of this thing without having to wipe down the pot, the counter and even the floor and your feet on occasion! Do not buy this triangular shaped 3qt Ice tea pot, instead buy the one with the round pot. It is also made by MR coffee, and it...

Ditto to all other reviews
The lid that doesn't fit and gets tea all over the floor. The fact that tea is down inside double layer pitcher but one more is the fact that after the tea cuts off you need to wait at least fifteen minutes before removing the tea pitcher from under the maker because thats how long it takes for all the tea to drain out of basket. Hot tea running down counters is not a pretty sight.

Single Serve Blender

Completely Appalled by the quality of this blender!
I bought this blender 3 months ago after the back 2 basics blender I'd had for 3 years finally died. My mother has always said that GE is a name you can trust and so to find that they made a single serve blender and one that was so affordable I was very excited. I snatched it up and began making smoothies right away. This is a good machine for making smoothies, if it didn't fall apart completely within a matter of months. after just the first few weeks of use the cups started getting stuck in the base and it took my boyfriend a half hour to get them out, often breaking one of the prongs on the cup. Then the blender blades lid started leaking while I was making the smoothie. Then I could only fit the cup in a certain way to turn it on. Finally a week ago (after only 3 months of use) the blades fell out of the lid completely! I couldn't believe it. I don't crush ice in this thing I just make normal smoothies, it's not rocket science how to use a blender so I don't understand why this...

While it worked.. it was great!
I recieved this for a wedding present about a month ago. I was very impressed with how it made fruit smoothies which is the only thing I would make in it. I probably used it a total of 10 days before the infamous "stuck in base" thing happened. I had to break the plastic pieces off the glass to get it unstuck from the base. I read reviews on line and it appears this is the norm, not the exception. Sadly, I loved it while it worked, but a product that routinely gets stuck to the base is flawed and I cannot recommend it.

Stuck cup solution
Try pushing down on cup (towards motor) and then turning, like a child-proof pill bottle. Then cup should release. great product for the price.

Paraflexx Disposable Parchment Paper Dehydrator Sheets (100 Count) 14 X 14

Well worth the purchase
I had to write my own review to counter the other, very negative one here.

Here's why you're going to want these sheets: Teflex (Paraflexx) sheets need almost as much cleaning as if you'd not used a sheet at all and had to clean the plastic on the tray. I hate that. Instead, I've used these parchment paper ones almost exclusively for drying apples, tomatoes, kale...the only thing you *wouldn't* want to use them for are crackers and things you need to spread out on the tray, as the other reviewer mentioned. At least, that would be my guess. I haven't made (high-fat, unhealthy) raw crackers in so long I can't remember whether I used these or the Paraflexx ones for that.

So what if the paper crinkles some when it's wet? The problem with this is...?? The only problem *I* experience with these paper ones are that your produce needs some weight to it, or the fan in your dehydrator will start blowing/curling the paper up as the items on it get lighter and lighter. No...

Please don't waste your money - these are awful
I purchased the 5 tray Excalibur dehydrator, and rather than buy the Paraflexx Reusable Premium Dehydrator Sheets (which are quite expensive), I decided to buy the 100 pack of disposable ones. I have NO idea why anyone would want to buy these.

1. If you put anything moist on these sheets, they begin to "crinkle" like wet paper and your finished dehydrated item has has a crinkled look!

2. It's so paper thin that it's extremely difficult to spread a mixture on it, and the more you spread the mixture, the more "crinkled" the paper becomes

3. I have WASTED an entire batch of dehydrated food trying to work with these sheets

I tried using these on 3 occasions and finally gave up, threw them all away and ordered the Excalibur Reusable ones. No problems whatsoever. I can't think of one reason to recommend this product.

Blendtec Designer Series Blender - Wildside + Four Side Jars Package - BLACK

Best Blender Availible
My wife and I have been using this Blender almost every morning for the past 4 months without any issues whatsoever.

Pros:
-WIll blend anything, most of the time with just 1 touch.
-Perfect height to fit under cabinets
-extremely easy to clean with the square sides
-Solid American-made construction will ensure years of use
-Helps us eat healthier and stay fit!

Cons:
-Need to hold the lid on until it gets up to speed or it can spill

Mind blowing blender!!
I don't drop this kind of money on an item without first doing careful product research & copious reading of reviews. I am SO glad I chose the Blendtec over the VitaMix!! It is an amazing machine and is performing beautifully. I make whole juice with some juice and lots of veggies. Then I add lots of frozen fruits, a little agave syrup, a little whey protein & ice. It turns out SO delish.... even tastier than the expensive national smootie chain. It also makes great ice cream!

Great blender, stellar juicer
We got this blender as a gift about a year ago and have used it to... blend stuff. Then, a little while ago, a bunch of cosmic forces came together and convinced my wife and me to "start juicing". (Almost simultaneously reading articles on juicing in several magazines, watching an episode of Dr. Oz and a documentary on healthy choices including juicing, and several conversations where the topic came up.)

That's when we discovered the true power of this blender. I already knew that the 4" blades meant it could whip up a smoothie in nothing flat, making short work of ice cubes in the process. Also, we found that the lid design allows a lot of air into the container so it can mix with whatever is being blended. What I didn't realize is that the "smoothie" setting is *ideal* for breaking down leafy greens, chunks of fruit, and hunks of vegetables as well. It seems to "know" when to speed up, slow down, and pulse, all during the preset 45 second program to produce a blended,...

Edgeware Edge Gourmet Compact Electric and Manual Knife Sharpener

Electric Sharpener - Very handy
I love this item. My hands are not as pliable as they use to be and being electric I have no problem using it.

A knife sharpener that WORKS!
This sharpener really does put a very sharp edge on all plain (NOT serrated) knives. I have always used "static" held sharpeners or "steels" to hone my knives, but once I started to use this electric sharpener, which is really easy to use, and has a "static" honing slot, my knives have performed as they should. Whether slicing fresh bread, tomatoes or meat, the newly sharpened knives sliced as if they were scalpels! I am VERY pleased with this device.

Rotary Belgian Waffle Maker By Gourmet's Best Premium

Great Belgian Waffle Maker
I love this waffle maker. I received it as a Christmas gift. I had been looking at different Belgian waffle makers and reading many bad reviews about the problems of many waffle makers. The gift was a surprise. I used it the first Saturday after Christmas. Followed the instructions and had perfect waffles. They didn't stick at all and tasted great. I've been using it every Saturday for family breakfast time. Everyone loves the waffles. I have no complaints at all. I use an olive oil spray and Jiffy mix for the waffles (using an egg and butter in the recipe). I highly recommend this product. Don't know why I don't see any reviews but I hope this helps.

Gourmet's Best Belgian Waffle Maker
I am extremely pleased with this waffle maker. The non-stick coating really is non-stick. The waffles came out crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I like how quickly it cooks the waffles. This is definitely worth the cost. It is the best waffle maker I have owned. It was a gift that will be well used at my house!

Just not good
I got this from CVS after Christmas for ten bucks. It was so poorly made I took I back and got a replacement. It was just as bad. These reviews ave goto be fake. A pastic clip holding it together broke within seconds.

Montel Williams HealthMasterTM Elite 1200-Watt 2-Quart Fruit-and-Vegetable Emulsifier 2012 model

Quality Blender for a Low Price!
First things first. I am not paid to write reviews. Half of my reviews have been disliked because of my straight forward attitude and honest tone. What can I say, I get right to the point. Now, back to the blender!

The HealthMaster Elite is pretty awesome! My mother owns a Vitamix and someone else I know a Blendtec. Based on my usage of those two expensive models and another cheaper model, if I had to guess, the Healthmaster would come in third. Please keep in mind that this is the 2012 model version and not the original model that has frozen hell over because of its awful reviews.

Out of the box I was very pleased. The Jar is not made of glass, YAY... which means it is light weight. It is also BPA free, YAY... (for those of you who are worried about other types of plastic, I am not one to really care about those)... The Jar sits on top of the base and does NOT tighten. It just sits there. How might you ask? It's real cool and if you don't understand...

Well made unit
I specifically bought this blender to make green shakes. I primarily throw half spinach and half frozen fruit along with 1/3 water and blend away on setting 1 then 2,3. The unit is huge, does what the infomercials say and cleanup is a snap. I have not done anymore with it as again, my goal was to make green shakes my regular blender could not make. I highly recommend it for that and anything else (ie crushing ice, soups, etc) is a plus.

I love my emulsifier!
I've been having too much fun with this. I've made lots of smoothies. Looking forward to making soups, etc. It's like a blender on steroids. I highly recommend it!

Sunbeam 2526 6-Speed 220-Watt Hand Mixer, White

zero to 100
I purchased the Sunbeam, mixmaster hand mixer because it was not convenient to take the kitchenaid out every time I wanted to whip up something small. The mixer works fine, I am just not happy with the fact that 1st speed is so fast. This mixer is so fast that there is no speed to blend or fold ingredients in. Therefore, there is a lot of air mixed into your ingredients. Also, if bowl is short, the mixer throws ingredients out of the bowl. I would recommend that if you are in the market for a hand mixer, go the the store and try them out before you buy. The best mixer will allow you to gradually increase your speed just like a stand mixer.

Small Airplane Engine
If you want a small airplane engine stirring your food-this is the one for you. There is no low speed-only the fast, food-splattering speed. I was so relieved when one of the beaters stopped rotating. My whole family and I let out a loud hurray when I threw it away!

too fast on low speed
What happened to the low speed? Just too fast, throws stuff everywhere, not at all worth the hassle.

Breville JE900 Juice Fountain Professional Juice Extractor

10 stars would do this machine better justice...
After my flimsy Juiceman Junior finally went to small appliance heaven, I decided to look around for a machine that I can actually live with = use it without hating to clean the thing afterwards. I'd never heard of Breville before, but the solid 5-star rating caught my eye. The idea of a wide enough feeder tube so I don't have to spend so much prep time was enticing, but what made me decide to buy the machine (cheaper some other place, look around) were the high marks on cleanup and performance. - Usually I don't write a review right away, but this juicer simply blew me away. What a beautiful piece of well thought-through craftmanship! Being German, I certainly prefer lasting performance over flimsy throw-away items, and this machine looks and feels like it will stand the test of time. I don't find the motor any louder than my previous machine, so that's not a problem. One reviewer wrote to put a damp paper towel around the pulp catcher rim to prevent tiny bits of pulp from...

Wonderful product
I got this machine as a birthday present and am over the moon about it. I've made some wonderful juices...papaya/apple, apple/carrot/ginger, and citrus mix. Anything I put in is thoroughly juiced...very little moisture is left in the pulp container. It is loud but this doesn't bother me at all. I do find that I have to cut the fruit into smaller wedges...whole apples, in spite of what's advertised on the box, do NOT fit down the spout. Still, a very minor point. I highly recommend this machine...for the price, you can't beat it. And clean-up takes all of 5 minutes if you're thorough. Even comes with its own scrub brush.

After intensive research, this was the one
I research almost everything I buy: my blender, coffeemaker, palm pilot, my car, electric razor, laundry detergent, etc.

After about 5 hours of research, I decided on the Breville JE900. My mother has a juicer from the TV guy (Jack LaL...) which I thought was decent. But I wanted to try something different, and the Breville had the highest marks I could find for the price.

Assembly was a snap after unpacking the box. While the juicer is mostly plastic, its high grade plastic and looks sharp on the counter.

The biggest differences between the Breville and the Jack LaL... juicer are: 1) size, 2) cleanup, and 3) noise.

The Breville is smaller (but juices just as much), MUCH easier to clean (the Breville mesh screen quickly snaps in and out, while the other one requires a special tool to unscrew the screen), and is louder than the Jack LaL juicer. All of the reviews I read said "the Breville is TOO LOUD." It may be a bit noisy, but it can crunch through hard...

Stainless Steel Round Egg Ring - 6"

Perfect size for an omelette
Handle does not get hot. Stainless is the best. No paint to come off or wood handle to come apart. You can't buy anything like this in the stores. The stainless releases well. You can't make it overflow.

I use them four to five times a week.

useful, but needs changes
I bent mine into the shape of the bread loaf that I use the most. I can make sandwich filling that exactly matches the bread.
Would be better if it was non-stick. Stainless doesn't seem necessary. The fairly thick metal heats all the way to the top
and cooks the edges very nicely.

Takeya - Takeya 2 Qt. Flash Chill Tea Maker Set, 1 water pitchers

Highly recommended
I bought this set, mostly to get a second pitcher, I have not used the extension, the rubber 'placer', or even the sleeve yet, but wanted to have them for potential future use.

I bought a 2nd one only because my 1st one couldnt keep up with the amount of iced tea I started drinking. Right now I am making more then a pitcher a day, not quite 2. I really only cold brew right now, 7 tea bags... about 12 hours... after a fair amount of trial and error thats what I liked the best.

I ended up not liking to use loose tea in this, its time consuming and a waste of water to clean all that tea out of the defuser when you were done. Tea bags were much easier, and somehow cheaper?

The pitcher seems very quality, easy to clean, never leaks even upside down. I find it pours a little weird if you open it 180 degrees, if you open it 360 degrees it gets better air flow going and does seem to dribble on the counter so much.

******
Since the review I have...

Great product
Just a perfectly made product. This was in my carpeted trunk with tea in it and it rattled around during a thousand mile trip without a single drop even close to coming out.

Great for iced tea, hot tea, or tea concentrate
I got this mainly for the sleeve, which I use to retain heat rather than the advertise cold retention. I have an herbal tea that is supposed to be boiled for ten minutes. Much easier to pour the boiling water into here, and let the cover retain the heat.

Selected HB Summit 12 Cup Brewstation By Hamilton Beach

Didn't live up to my expectations
I am probably a very tough sell GOOD on Automatic coffee makers. I want the water at 200 degrees to activate the coffee beans properly, BUT I don't want it to get that grey look after an hour when the tannins get overcooked. I ALSO want my coffee pour-able when my foot hits the bottom of my stairs. I'm a zombie in the morning so I want to grab my cup and pour.

The first of this coffee maker I had 9 months ago when they replaced it after 2 weeks when the LED screen went blank. Thank God it was still under warranty. I was pissed! NOW this one they sent me crapped out after 9 months. It's been leaking for about 3 weeks. I've been putting up with it because my coffee taste wasn't affected. But when the LED screen went to all zeros this afternoon that was it...the 4 star went to a 3. This is totally unacceptable in a coffee maker that is over a retail price of $79. Sunbeam Products Rc101 Rice Cooker With Steaming Basket, 10-Cup - Quantity 2 Rice Cookers - Steamers

The best rice cooker we've used....
We've used several brands of rice cookers, all claiming to be good. One caught on fire after two months, another lasted only a year before it simply stopped working all together.

When we spotted the Rival cooker at a local store, we bought it based on the name. I've used Rival crockpots since my college days, and have never had a problem with them.

This cooker does the job, and does it well. We've had ours for just over two years, and the non-stick bowl has only now started to show wear. We mainly cook brown rice, with only the occasional white rice meal.

We like the larger capacity bowl. Though we could get along with a smaller bowl, this one allows us to add things in or various recipes, and the warming option keeps the meal nicely warmed.

We plan to replace our current rice cooker with the exact same model.

**My only issue with the 10-cup cooker has been the smaller bowl. If you're like me and sometimes add other ingredients...

Good rice BUT......
I have been making rice with this cooker for 2 months now. It spews starchy boiling rice water on my counter every time I make rice. But,, I like the rice it makes. It is much better than what I made on the stove top. I was considering returning this cooker and getting another, as I checked the reviews, I found that many others had this same problem. I have decided to keep it; I worked out a little system of putting down 3 paper towels on the counter and when the cooking is done, I wrap up the mess and throw it in the garbage.

My Rival has no rival!
My Rival has no rival!
I had the smaller Rival Rice Cooker and LOVED it. I have been wanting the larger one, but could not justify replacing my perfectly good little one.
Welllll as fate would have it, I dropped the lid. It shattered. I now really do need a new rice cooker. I have decided to replace it with this Rival 10-cup rice cooker.
Even though I dropped and broke the glass lid, I prefer glass lids (on all my pots and pans).

I make rice ALL the time... ALL kinds of rice. I have never had a problem with cooking any variety in my Rival rice cooker.
Lots of people complain about the starchy water spewing forth from the lid. I learned many years ago to rinse the rice before cooking. The traditional Japanese
way is to rinse three times. Believe me, I do and it works. Absolutely NO starchy-watery mess. Some prefer putting the rice in a strainer and running it under cold
water. I don't like to waste water so I put the rice in the cooker bowl,...

Kaz Home Environment HHT-080 Hepa Tower Air Purifier

Not recommended
Had this air cleaner about 60 days. It quit rotating. Then after about another 30 days, it became so loud that we were not able to leave it on high during bedtime hours. Usually leave it on low so we don't have so much noise. Was not noisy at all in the beginning. Tried to make contact with manufacturer but never recieved call back.

5 Light Cast Arm Fitter w CFL

One All Glass Cordless Electric Kettle

Mine lasted two weeks
I liked the look of this and purchased it on sale in a bricks and mortar store for about $40. Looks good if a little bulky at the base, however, it self combusted in week two. I called the company who basically said "tough", I must have caused the kettle to fracture. Don't recall it but maybe I did although all I did was fill it and boil it! Don't recommend it on this basis. The company do not sell a replacement kettle - you would have to replace the entire product if you too manage to somehow cause it "trauma". Not worth the risk I say!

Sweet Tea Maker

Easy to use - tip on dissolving sugar for sweet tea
I love this iced tea maker. We use it with bagged tea, loose tea and we also make sweet tea sometimes.

The tip we have found for getting the sugar to dissolve better in the basket is to run the interior of the basket under water so that it's wet. There is still some sugar (maybe 1T) left in the basket but not nearly as much as we have left when the basket is dry. Maybe it's coincidence but it has worked for us.

We have had this for over 2 years and use it alot. A few months ago, the carafe fell on the floor and broke but instead of buying a different tea maker I am just buying a replacement pitcher because this is the best tea maker I've owned.

It says it makes sweet tea but....
I really like this tea maker. I had a different one and it only lasted about 6 months before it started leaking all over the counter. This model is advertised as a sweet tea maker and does have a basket to put sugar to. The problem I have is it doesn't all dissolve. Half the sugar sort of clumps up and doesn't dissolve into the pitcher. It's a minor thing. We just add the sugar to the hot tea when it done brewing. I like the glass pitcher, easy to clean and doesn't stain.

great item
works great but if using Stevia it does not dissolve well. There is a lot left and some is even like sticky paste. But all in all this is a great item

Lysol Air Purifier LAP-1

Bought 3 and all 3 Broke
This is one of the worst products ever sold. I bought 2 and my dad bought one, on clearance, at a warehouse club. Within a couple of months, they start making a rattling noise, very loud. It sounds like bad bearings. All 3 broke. My dad threw his away first. I was pretty persistent and would beat on it with my hand to try to make the noise stop, which sometimes would work. I threw one away. The third and final is now going in the trash.

The last reviewer talked about inability to get air filters. You won't need any because it'll break before the first one gets dirty.

Air Purifier
I own this air purifier. It works very well but you can no longer get new filters for the Lysol Air Purifier Model LAP-1. I would therefore not recommend purchasing this model.

Jarden Home Environment HM3855C-UM Holmes Cool Mist Console Humid

Good
I like this humidifier so far. It has 3 speeds. I live in 1 BR apartment with wife and kid and I have a kitchen and Living room combined. During winter time, due to the heat my nose gets stuffy and dry. I got this specifically for this. I leave it outside the bedroom in my living room at High to medium speed and it covers the entire house. I am liking it. The only problem is moving it from one room to other. Water cans are not that big of a problem, although filling it time to time can be bit annoying. Over all I like this. I am surprised why this does not have any reviews. I was planning to return it for another better product from same brand but I am afraid to try a new one.

Beenthere, done that
This sharpener is a good thing to try out, to learn that it will not be the answer to a sharp chain. The user will soon become aware that the "stone" loses its bite, and a new one needs to be purchased to continue.
Then, it becomes apparent that a good quality file for sharpening is the best and cheapest way to get the job done. But I had to try it to find out that it wasn't the answer. I do suggest all try it, so that they know too.

LumiPure Air Purifier with Ultra Powerful Ionization

FInd a different Air Purifier / FIlter!
Fan motor gets too hot and the fans typically burn themselves out.

Does not provide very good air filteration, likely due to it not having any pre-filter, and also likely due to lousy air-flow.

Design could be better.

Out of three I have, only one still works.

Company no longer exists so no service and no parts.

Excellent until died at 18 months
This unit did pull/ collect the dust out of my house. Worked great until it died at too earlier of a age.
The dust was ionized and collected on the inside column. No need to buy filters. You just turned unit off. Pull column out and wash. Very easy and did the job.
Shame it died so young.

Me too...worked good at first.
Bought this in 2006 at a home improvement store. Had to return the first one for some issue with in a few days (fan?). Second one worked good for several months or more but then the ionizer was very loud and the machine would shut off. I cleaned it as needed and it worked on and off for a while longer. Finally ot fed up and it sat in a closet for many years. I recently pulled it out and tinkered with it for the afternoon...double checked everything from top to bottom and made sure the 3 tier cannester system was lined up properly. Seems the problem was the ion cannester needed to be tilted forward very sleightly. A folded up match book cover did the trick so I was pleased at first. Well after a few days the motor does not always start up and needs a nudge with a long plastic straw. If it craps out on me this time I'm getting rid of it. The layout and design seem alright but if it don't work ain't no good!!

Juan Valdez JVPM1W Pod Coffee Brewing System with Iced Tea Spout, Black

Not perfect, but not so bad either
Other reviewers seem to have two main complaints -- noise, and spilled water/coffee. While it is a bit loud while brewing, it brews so quickly that I can't complain about it.

As for spilled water - I too had this problem about half the time I used it. But, what I discovered is that it only spills when you have any part of the filter pod between the metal brew basket and the silicone seal in the top. So, if you're using JV or Melitta pods, try flipping the pod over so that the flash around the edge of the pod doesn't extend past the metal. Other brands of pods are just too big, so you have to tuck the paper underneath. I haven't had a single spill since I started taking extra care positioning the pod into the basket.

You can even make your own pods by folding ground coffee into a standard 4-cup basket filters -- just have to be careful of extra paper to avoid spills.

Juan Valdez One Cup Coffee Maker
I purchased my machine at Target on clearance for $15. It was still NOT a bargain. The cover never sat right, water spewed out the side, and the pods/receptacle are smaller than most others so you're kind of locked in to purchasing JV coffee pods. Melitta pods are another fit, but they're very proud ($$$$) of their product.

At this writing my husband has taken it apart, glued the plastic cover hinge that broke, and if it doesn't work - we don't have much hope - it will go in the trash. I'd rather have Juan's burro than his coffee maker.

The only thing that brews is your temper...
When I purchased this machine at Target on the clearance rack, I wondered why such a good looking machine would be so cheap ($15 dollars down from $60). After using it four times, I now have my answer. First, there is the issue with the size of the coffee pods it will accept. Where most companies pods seem very comparable in size, the Juan Valdez pods are smaller the any I've found. Second, the programmed cup sizes do not work in a standard American mug size. It's easiest just to be content with a small cup of coffee then try to determine how many times to run the machine to fill your cup. The last, and most irritating, is how temperamental the thing is. Each time I've used, I've started by inserting and re-inserting the water container at least fifteen times, until I don't get the rapid flashing error light, and I wasn't always successful. So any convenience that may be presented by the one-cup coffeemaker is absolute BS when you have to screw around with the components for fifteen...

Nesco American Harvest 5-Tray FD-35 425-Watt Snackmaster Dehydrator

A bit noisy, but easy to clean
I chose a top-element dehydrator as it's easier to clean (no drips onto the bottom element.) This dehydrator has sturdy, slightly flexible plastic trays. It's a bit noisy; when the heat goes on there is a whine I don't like, and the fan of course is noisy too. So making dehydrated foods (takes hours) needs a separate room, maybe the cellar.

The price is right on this dehydrator, but you need sheets for making jerky and fruit leathers. They aren't included (that's the minus-a-star) but you can pick them up at kitchen supply stores.

Very Happy
Got the FD35 for Christmas last year and am very happy with it. It consistantly dries things in about half of the time listed in "The Dehydrator Cookbook". Clean up is great; usually I just wipe the trays off, but when they need it everything except the heater/fan unit itself goes in the dishwasher.

My recommendations:
- Get the FD35, put it a few rooms away from the main living area as it is a little bit noisy.
- Get extra trays from Nesco's web site. The trays Amazon carries (at this time) are for the FD50 and _DO NOT_ work on the 35.
- Get the fruit leather trays and the clean screens
- Skip the cook books. Ive found online info and recipes much more useful than what is in the cookbooks.
- Experiment. Ive found that tiny marshmellows are great, but Ive never seen it in the cookbooks or online stuff.

I do have one problem that will not be an issue for most people.
The unit generates a lot of electomagnetic interference which causes a...

Heat on the top, works just fine, but loud
There are debates if the heating element of a dehydrator should be on the top of the unit or underneath. (Heat rises, but fans blow down...hmm.)

Whatever the physics of it, the Nesco is reasonably priced, made of slightly flexible plastic that is not prone to breaking easily and makes fine dried fruits. We've tried dried apples, dried crackers of a tomato-onion-flax base and all came out wonderfully well. While there are more advanced dehydrators, this one is priced well and will make your jerky, fruit leather, preserved produce and other dried foods just fine. Recommend you get teflon sheets for making jerky--they are not included with the unit and you need donut-shaped ones. The sheets allow you to pour liquid batter onto the dehydrator and get leathers, jerkies and my favorite, dried flax crackers. I personally think they should come with the unit as it is a special shape and the sheets are an important feature, so I dinged the unit a star. Also the SAME star is dinged...

Bon Appetit 8 Blade Dual Action Blender with Metal Drive (Black)

Blender
When I got the product, it was so dirty, I wouldn't even use it. There was actually rust around the blades and leftover food too. I still haven't used it and probably never will. I would not recommend buying from this seller.

Decent product, TERRIBLE Customer Service
I Have had this blender now for over a year. I am sad to say I have been battling customer service representatives for well over 7 months. Yep, battling over replacing a part that is broken for longer than I actually had the blender up and running. First they sent a part that was incorrect for the blender. After weeks of trying to get someone to listen to this problem, they finally agree to send me a whole new blender 2 months ago. This week I find out that replacement shipment was placed on hold, without ever notifying me because they needed more information. Several emails, hours on hold, and a difficult "customer service" rep later I believe a replacement is finally on its way (after another 4-6 week wait I am being told).

I have doubts about the general quality of the blender, everytime I call customer service I am on hold for 30 minutes, I guess that means a lot of people have issues with products from this company. Further, the unwillingness to fix an item...

Three Light Bowl Ceiling Fan Light Kit Finish: Stainless Steel

Nice style but flawed light fixture
I like the art deco styling of this light fixture but the engineering of it is incomplete. I bought it to attach to a 48" Hunter Original ceiling fan. From comparing various pictures and the actual item it appears that the assembly of the fixture was changed. The brackets around the edge which look as if they hold the rings together are now only screwed on the top side which leaves the bottom of the bracket loose and they not stay straight. The bracket needs to be either screwed from the top and bottom as pictured or at least pinned on the bottom so it is stable. I will have to glue the lower end down to the ring to fix it and keep it stable. Also the fixture only comes with a threaded pipe with jam nuts for the connection to a ceiling fan, no normal plate to attach it to the ceiling fan. I do not understand this since from my observations alot of ceiling fans use the same size plate with a 2" screw hole spacing. They could even have a plate with different hole spacings to fit...
